Wondering if someone might be able to point me in the direction of where I might begin to identify local resources to support SOC, particularly at the middle school level? In my work supporting new teachers, I am noticing a distinct pattern at several of the middle schools I visit, and am wondering what resources might be available to support both the teachers, and especially, the students? Currently our district does not have systems in place to address this issue. :-(

    One resource that offers specific approaches (connected to Boykin’s Model and a variant on Bloom’s) was in the journal Gifted Education, “Underachievement among Gifted Students of Color: Implications for Educators” by Moore, Ford, and Milner. While the article describes different possibilities and systems for support in a gifted education setting, the ideas should be applicable to any level.
