Helping students articulate their mathematical thinking through game play with others.

Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8

In this series of videos, I lead my students through a prediction game. Working in groups, students use 30-sided dice to predict if they have the highest, lowest, or middle number and then discuss their prediction strategies with the class.

Part One: Games of Chance

In part one of this classroom activity, students play a game of chance to test their skills of prediction.

Part Two: Discovery

In part two of the activity, I circulate around the room and interrogate students about what they are discovering about predicting as they are playing the game.

Part Three: Reflection

In part three of the activity, I ask students to reflect on what they saw happening while they played.
