Helping students articulate their mathematical thinking through game play with others.

Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8

In this series of videos, I engage participants in a set of games involving prediction. These games force students to think deeply and creatively about numbers while maintaining high energy and fun in the classroom.

Part One: Introduction

In part one of the workshop, I argue that game play offers students opportunities to show deeper understanding of mathematics concepts.

Part Two: Creating Data

In part two of the workshop, I invite participants to play games that enable them to create their own data and make observations.

Part Three: Mystery Roll

In part three of the workshop, I change the game and ask participants to make predictions without knowing what other players are holding.
