Using cloud-based apps to help students collaborate and share their writing.

Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12

In this series of videos, I demonstrate the effectiveness of using free, cloud-based apps as a way to enable collaboration between students during the writing process.

Part One: Introduction

In part one of the workshop, I explain how Google Drive and the Google cloud-based apps better engage students in the writing process. Then participants begin a pre-writing exercise, a rough draft, and a peer-edited document.

Part Two: Sharing Documents

In part two of the workshop, I invite participants to share their email addresses with the person next to them and invite them to their rough drafts. Participants then use the comments feature to make comments in the shared document. Finally, they publish a final draft.

Part Three: The Power of Publishing

In part three of the workshop, I describe how publishing the work forces students to revise and polish and think more carefully about audience. We finish with questions and comments.
