Strengthening student reading with engaging group read-alouds.

by Gay Barnes

Grades K-2, Grades 3-5

In this series of videos, I examine with the group why intentional read-alouds are essential for supporting our learners. This means being intentional in our teaching and in which books we choose so that we inspire, instruct, and invest in student learning

Part One: Introduction

In part one of the workshop, I explain the power of the words that we give children when we real aloud to them. Then, as a group we discuss why reading aloud to children is important.

Part Two: Making Read-Alouds Intentional

In part two of the workshop, we talk about the importance of being intentional when choosing text to read with children.

Part Three: Inspiring, Investing, and Instructing

In part three of the workshop, I invite the group to take a close look at a book that I provided to determine how it inspires, instructs, and demonstrates investment in our learners.
