Brett Bigham

Brett Bigham is the 2014 Oregon State Teacher of the Year and the current Oregon Education Association Teacher of Excellence. He recently returned from Peru as part of the NEA Foundation Global Fellowship Program where he represented U.S. teachers and education leaders. He sits on the boards of Oregon Safe Schools Community Coalition which works to stop bullying in schools, Abbey’s Closet which provides free prom dresses to 3000+ girls a year and is a board member of the national Clubfunder Organization that provides funding to LGBT school groups. He is a member of the Portland Art Museum Teacher Advisory Committee, NNSTOY (National Network of State Teachers of the Year) and the Council for Exceptional Children. He has been named a Community Champion in Education by PHAME, a Neighborhood Hero by the Bank of America Foundation, was a finalist for the OnPoint Educator of the Year award and he was named Outstanding Special Education Teacher of the Year by the National Association of Special Education Teachers in 2013. Next week Bigham will be doing book readings in San Francisco and Los Angeles with the publication of his essay in the book “One Teacher in Ten in the New Millennium.”
